Congrats to Greg Paulus, who, after spending last season as an assistant on David Padgett’s staff at Louisville, has been hired on as an assistant at George Washington.
At GW, Pulus will join forces with someone else who has deep ties to U of L basketball. Former Cardinal player Hajj Turner has been an assistant for the Colonials since 2011.
Paulus began his coaching career as an assistant for the Navy Midshipmen during the 2010-11 season. He joined Thad Matta’s staff at Ohio State a year later as the team’s video coordinator. Paulus was promoted to assistant in 2013 and remained in that role up until Matta’s surprise firing this past summer.
Some may also remember that Paulus played quarterback at Syracuse during the 2009 football season. He started and completed 12 of 16 passes for 89 yards with one interception in a 10-9 loss at Louisville that year. The victory wound up being Steve Kragthorpe’s final one as the head coach of the Cardinals.
Best of luck to Greg, who I thought did a terrific job in an odd situation at Louisville last season.
