The Cardinal Countdown: 94 days Until Kickoff

#94 G.G. Robinson

Class: RS Junior

Ht/Wt: 6-4/298

Position: Defensive Line

Hometown: Lilburn, GA

Twitter: @GGRobinson

Thoughts: G.G. has been a popular name among the fanbase for multiple years now, landing in Louisville as a big time recruit who spurned Auburn, Florida, and others late in the process to stick with Grantham and the Cards. As with any three year player on the roster, Robinson is now having to learn a new defensive scheme for the third straight season, and while it can certainly be challenging GG seemed to be picking things up quickly in the spring according to the staff. The day to day practice breakdown highlighted Robinson’s interior quickness and his ability to fill gaps up front, both areas of concern with new bodies taking on expanded roles in 2018.

After taking a redshirt and then getting limited reps as a freshman, Robinson came in guns blazing last year and raised a few eyebrows in his season opening performance against Purdue (3TKL, 1.5 TFL) getting some decent PT in game 1 and positioning himself to be an impact player throughout 2017. Robinson appeared in all 13 games and set a few more career records as the season progressed (6 TKL @ NC State, 6 career starts). With multiple guys gone Robinson should have an opportunity to step up and take on a big responsibility playing on the edge. It appears BVG was leaning towards a somewhat more traditional 4-3 front during the spring which means lineman like GG will be relied upon heavily to stop the run game. Since arriving on campus Robinson has only added about 10 pounds but you can see his frame has developed quite a bit the last three seasons. Standing at 6-4 and pushing three bills I think 2018 becomes a season of note for GG on a personal level, operating in a defense that may struggle at times, he will make his presence known.

Sweet Tweet:

For all you “olds” out there, Fortnite is a new game the kids are playing on those fancy computation machines and video game consoles. The intricacies of how you play I’m not sure, but what I do know is a crap ton (official measurement of the countdown) of people are playing this game. At the time of this post Fortnite had well over 40 million downloads and over 3.4 million concurrent players. That’s a lot of freaking people (just slightly more than the number who read these posts daily). As long as we don’t have another “Call To Duty” situation it’s all good with me, although a BVG press conference talking about a ‘Fortnite’ boogie bomb may be a video I’d pay to watch come mid-July.
