Louisville blasts Wake Forest 10-2 in ACC tournament opener

Josh Stowers remains one of the hottest hitters in the county.

Josh Stowers continued his sizzling May as he led Louisville to a 10-2 stomping of ninth-seeded Wake Forest in the ACC tournament opener for both teams.

Stowers, who was named First Team All-ACC earlier this week, blasted a three-run home run, a three-run triple and a double in the Cards’ emphatic victory. The performance came just four days after Stowers ended the regular season by blasting a pair of three-run bombs in U of L’s 10-7 win over Notre Dame.

Freshman lefty Reid Detmers (4-1) picked up the victory for Louisville, scattering four hits and two walks across 5 2/3 innings. Junior right-hander Bryan Hoeing spelled Detmers and delivered the next seven outs for the Cardinals.

Louisville’s win means that regardless of what happens between Duke and Wake Forest tomorrow, the winner of Friday morning’s game between the Cards and the fourth-seeded Blue Devils will win Pool D and advance to Saturday’s semifinal round. By throwing Detmers on Wednesday, U of L now gets to hand the ball to No. 1 starter Adam Wolf for Friday’s tilt. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
