The U of L women’s basketball team saw its 2017-18 season end with a heartbreaking 73-63 overtime loss to Mississippi State Friday night in the Final Four.

Louisville appeared to have victory in hand, holding a 59-56 lead with 11 seconds to go. With a foul to give, Jeff Walz elected to play the possession straight up. The result was Roshunda Johnson burying an open trey to tie the game.

The Cardinals had one final shot to win the game in regulation, but Myisha Hines-Allen wasn’t rewarded for what appeared to be an obvious foul on Mississippi State’s Teaira McCowan, and Jazmine Jones’ putback layup rolled off the front of the rim.

The shell-shock that hit Louisville at the end of regulation appeared to carry into overtime. The Cardinals never got their feet back underneath them, and were outscored 14-4 in the extra frame.

This one is going to sting for a while.

Also, let’s never play Mississippi State in anything ever again.
