Louisville defeats Virginia 51-39

NCAA Womens Basketball: Louisville at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

I glanced up at the scoreboard with five minutes left in the game, and it hit me that the score was only 48-29. I thought “wow, this game kinda sucks.” It snuck up on me though because both teams seemed to be playing hard, but unfortunately neither one was particularly adept at scoring. Louisville shot 38% and Virginia shot 26%. Woof.

Asia Durr had lots of good looks that she would normally knock down, but she was just 5-17 from the field tonight. Still, her 13 points led all scorers. Jazmine Jones added 10 points. Louisville had 27 of their points off of Virginia turnovers.

After the game Coach Walz said that Sam Fuehring and Myisha Hines-Allen didn’t come out and play well and that really affected the team. He said, “They have to figure out how to get their swag back.” He also chastised the team saying, “You can’t go half speed in practice and then expect to go full speed in a game. I take responsibility for that.”

The Cards play their last game of the regular season at home this Sunday vs Pitt. Myisha Hines-Allen will be celebrated as the only senior. The game is at 2PM and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
