After close first half Louisville destroys Virginia 77-41.

Louisville headed into Virginia for a battle to stay atop the ACC standings, and for awhile it looked like a pretty evenly matched affair. It was 15-15 at the end of the first quarter and 31-26 at the half. However, in the 3rd quarter fatigue began to set in for the Cavaliers. For the 23rd time this season the Cards held an opponent to single digits in a quarter. At the end of the 3rd Louisville was up 55-33 and the custodian may as well have gone ahead and turned out the lights at JPJ Arena.

Asia Durr led all scorers with 21 points. Myisha Hines-Allen had her 4oth career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Bionca Dunham showed once again that she’s growing into an impact player off the bench with some smooth finishes around the rim and strong rebounds (13/5).

Coach Walz said that he told his team after the game, “We just beat a really good team by 36 on the road and Sam Fuehring didn’t score,” adding that he was really proud. He also mentioned that Dana Evans was frustrated because she missed 2 layups but “I’m trying to get her past that because she was dropping some dimes out there,” (she had 6 assists).

Next the Cards travel to Syracuse on Sunday. The game is at 1:00 and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
