The NBA announced Thursday that Donovan Mitchell has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for January. Mitchell earned the same honor for December and becomes the first rookie this season to win the award in back-to-back months.
The first year guard out of Louisville averaged 22.2 points (best among rookies), 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 35.0 minutes per game during the month of January. Mitchell had eight games with 20-or-more points and two games with 30-plus points, which led all rookies for the month. Over the 31 days, he totaled 288 points, 49 boards and 44 assists, becoming the first rookie since Andrew Wiggins in 2015 to total over 280 points, 40 rebounds and 40 assists in January.
Ben Simmons took home the honor for the Eastern Conference.
Not a bad 24 hours for former Cards in the NBA.
