Bobby Petrino: “Lamar is the best player you’re ever going to see”

I’m not crying.

U of L has officially announced the departure of Lamar Jackson with a press release.

The easy thing for us to do right now is to get swept up in a wave of crippling depression and unconquerable fear for the future. It would be so easy to quit our jobs/drop out of school and stay in bed for four consecutive weeks watching nothing but Lamar highlights on a loop. It would be the opposite of hard for all of us to give up all forms of reading in favor of a literary diet that consists of nothing but the records Jackson set during his three seasons at U of L.

I’m saying let’s not do that. Definitely don’t do that.

Instead, let’s focus on the good times. That’s what Bobby Petrino is doing.

“As I have said before, Lamar is the best player you’re ever going to see,” Petrino said in the release. ”His impact on our university and this community has been immeasurable. And while personal accomplishments have been massive, he has remained such a humble person and has been a terrific teammate who cares more about others and simply winning.

”It’s been such a pleasure to coach him and see his growth as a player. Lamar is the ultimate competitor. His ability to throw the ball, run the ball, there’s been nobody like him and it’ll be awhile before you see anyone like him again. While he is moving on, our relationship does not end here. We will continue to help him in any way we can and embrace every opportunity he has to remain engaged with our university. We all wish him tremendous success.”

If you do, however, feel the need to spend at least a portion of your day in bed with all of Jackson’s records, you can do that.
