Louisville has strong 4th quarter to soundly defeat Pitt 77-51

NCAA Womens Basketball: Notre Dame at Louisville Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

If you didn’t get the chance to watch Louisville vs Pitt tonight you would be forgiven for thinking it was a routine blowout win. However, the Cards were only up by 4 at halftime and had a meager 7 point lead with a few minutes left in the 3rd quarter. At that point the combination of the Louisville bench wearing Pitt down plus foul trouble for their best player, Yacine Diop, contributed to the Cards going on a 21-2 run to seal the deal.

Myisha Hines-Allen led Louisville in scoring with 13 and she added a career-high 18 rebounds. Sam Fuehring and Arica Carter both had 12 apiece. Sophomore Bionca Dunham came off the bench to help spark the 4th quarter run by scoring 6 straight points. After the game Coach Walz said, “[Bionca] came in and give us a great lift.”

Coach was also impressed with Myisha’s rebounding noting that she only scored 5 points in the first half “but she figured out a way to continue to fight.” Likewise, even though Asia Durr “only” scored 9 points he said that she played “a solid game and he was really pleased.” He added, “this season is completely up to them....the 4th quarter they played hard but they have to learn to put it together for four quarters.”

Next up the #2 Cards (20-0) play #12 Florida State (17-2) at the Yum on Sunday at 5pm. The game will be shown on ESPN2.
