Bobby Petrino dropped a bomb after Monday evening’s open practice, informing the media that senior defensive lineman Chris Williams is no longer with the team. Petrino stated that Williams had violated a team rule, but wouldn’t elaborate further.
After transferring in from Northwest Mississippi Junior College, Williams saw significant playing time for the Cardinals in 2016. He totaled 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
Williams was expected to compete for a starting spot at defensive tackle during this fall camp. His absence suddenly leaves the Cardinals thin in one of the spots where it was looking to replace significant production from a season ago.
Not great, Bob.
