Thoughts: Tobias took a redshirt last year coming out of the A-T-L as a pretty decent prospect at linebacker. The former Mizzou commit, who also had offers from Clemson, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State among others, made the decision to switch to the Cards not long before National Signing Day last year, likely coming to the realization that Missouri football is an absolute dumpster fire (I’m a former resident so I have the right to say that).
Little got some reps at that spot last year but the coaching staff made the call to shift him over to fullback after the season. According to our local Card Chronicle correspondent, Keith Wynne, Little showed a few flashes during the open practice sessions as a bruiser back who could certainly use his speed and power to also throw a block or two when Petrino runs his fullback sets. I’ve always loved a little I-formation football and honestly thought we’d see more of it when Griffin Uhl was at fullback, but those sets never really materialized and the position saw limited usage. I’m hoping, selfishly, we get a few more plays where the fullback is utilized as a lead block or a decoy to help establish the running game. As good as Lamar’s legs are teams will absolutely be focusing on him and the Cards HAVE TO build a solid ground threat separate from #8 to be a winning team in 2017.
Sweet Tweet:
Agree with Tobias. It takes a special player to be able to switch back and forth between offense and defense. Wish him the best in his new role.
