By defeating NC State 10-5 Monday night, Kentucky claimed the first regional title in the history of its baseball program. The Wildcats also set up a super regional showdown against Louisville that figures to create a scene unlike anything Jim Patterson Stadium has ever seen before.
Kentucky is looking to do what Louisville did exactly 10 years ago: take its program to the next level with a surprising trip to the College World Series guided by a first-year head coach. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are looking to avoid three straight super regional defeats as a national seed. It’s safe to say that if that were to happen, the most recent would also be the most bitter of the trio.
The two rivals split their regular season meetings this year. The Cardinals won the meeting at Jim Patterson, 5-3, while Kentucky returned the favor in Lexington with an 11-7 triumph. Before that defeat, U of L had won six straight against the Wildcats.
Here’s the schedule for this weekend, which should be easy enough to remember:
Game 1: Friday, June 9 – Noon (ESPN2)
Game 2: Saturday, June 10 – Noon (ESPN)
Game 3: Sunday, June 11 – Noon (ESPN or ESPN2)
