Thursday evening Cardinal news and notes

Casey Page takes the Card Chronicle Summer Tour on the gorgeous Trolltunga hike in Norway. Doesn't even look real.

I_medium The presentation of the 2017 Golden Spikes Award will take place tonight at 7 on ESPN2. If Brendan McKay wins, then Louisville will become the first program ever to produce the Heisman and Golden Spikes winners from the same season.

I_medium Congrats to Louisville's Drew Ellis on being named the ACC baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

I_medium College Football News has released its preseason ACC accolades. Included is an Offensive Player of the Year nod to noted college football performer Lamar Jackson.

2017 CFN Preseason ACC Offensive Player of the Year

QB Lamar Jackson, Jr. Louisville

Of course several new ACC offensive playmakers will emerge this season, but with the loss of UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky, FSU RB Dalvin Cook, and Deshaun Watson -€” along with a whole slew of other Clemson stars -€” there aren't a lot of obvious threats to to push the reigning Heisman winner out of the league's top offensive spot.

So what can Jackson do as an encore? He could lead Louisville to the ACC title, beat Clemson this time around, and keep the amazing pace set at the start of the season through the entire year, but as long as he does that again, it'll be up to the rest of the team to do its part. It'll be tough behind a rebuilding line, but he'll make everyone around him better -€” again.

Jackson is also No. 1 in the site's ranking of the league's 30 best players, as well as a member of CFN's preseason All-ACC team. Geron Christian, Jaire Alexander and Mason King join Jackson on that team.

I_medium Louisville checked in at No. 26 in the final Director's Cup Standings. Stanford is first for like the 972nd year in a row.

I_medium Chris Jones is staying positive.

I_medium This OTL story on the torture of a pair of University of Rochester football players is terrifying.

I_medium Congrats to former Card Corey Ray, who will play for the U.S. team in the All-Star Futures Game in Miami next month.

I_medium Don can bring it.

I_medium Like his uncle Elvis before him, Dejimi Dumervil plans on setting records at Louisville.

I_medium Mo Bamba's brother is a douche.

I_medium Summer Tour heads out West.

I hear Petco is awesome.

I_medium Each of the three Utah Jazz draftees, including Donovan Mitchell, share a link with one another.

I_medium Very good story from SI here on Clinton Portis.

I_medium Donovan does not look like Donovan here.

I_medium I'm not sure if this video of Chilean doctors stopping mid-surgery to watch Chile score the go-ahead goal against Portugal on the Confed Cup is real, but if it is, it's sort of terrifying. And awesome. Awesomely terrifying.

I_medium Another cover for Lamar. This time it's Phil Steele.

I_medium You've probably seen or heard about the umpire who saved a woman's life on a Pittsburgh bridge Wednesday night. The full story is incredible.

I_medium Cards in the pros.

I_medium Athlon ranks the ACC's top quarterbacks for 2017. Mark Gottfried is No. 1.

I_medium Former Louisville hoops commit Frankie Hughes has transferred from Missouri to Duquesne.

I_medium This is the part of News & Notes where we mock DePaul.

I_medium And finally, Eric Crawford breaks down the situation regarding the focus of Louisville's upcoming appeal.
