Former Louisville long snapper Colin Holba was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers:
In a strange turn of events, Holba was the first Cardinal to be selected in this year’s NFL draft, and only one of two Cardinals to be taken at all (Josh Harvey-Clemons was selected by the Redskins). Holba was also the only long snapper to be drafted in this year’s draft class.
For the most part, Holba wasn’t watching too much of the draft, but turned on the TV just in time to hear his name be called.
“My hands started shaking,” he said. “I answered and they made sure it was me. Then I talked to the GM. I talked to Coach (Mike) Tomlin. I talked to Coach (Danny) Smith, the special teams coach. It was just a whirlwind of phone calls and passing the phone down on their end. ... My family is all in the house and I've got friends in the house. They see it go on TV, so they start going crazy. It was a wild moment.”
Best of luck to Colin with the Steelers!
