Former defensive tackle DeAngelo Brown has signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent.
Brown is listed at 6’0” and weighing in at 312 lbs. Brown, who was predicted to be drafted somewhere in the mid-to-late rounds, was listed as the 25th best defensive tackle in this year’s draft class, according to CBS Sports.
Brown elected to return for his final season of eligibility and anchored a defense that ranked 6th in the ACC in scoring defense, 3rd in run defense, and 5th in passing defense. He led the team in tackles for loss (14), 3rd in sacks (3), and 10th in total tackles (41). Brown’s return to the Cardinals defense was a big boost after Sheldon Rankins was drafted in the first round by the New Orleans Saints in the 2016 draft.
Scouts view Brown as a better fit in a 3-4 defense than in a 4-3. Some of the things that scouts like about Brown is that he has a good base and arm length. One of the things that should really help Brown in making the team is that he has very good conditioning, and will be able to log in a lot of snap counts for a nose tackle.
Some of the areas that Brown will need to work on is his explosiveness out of his stance, but also to keep his pad level from rising so he doesn’t get knocked back and off-balance. Scouts also feel that is instincts are a little below average.
Best of luck to DeAngelo in the NFL!
