Brendan McKay got it done on the hill and at the plate as No. 2 Louisville opened a huge series against No. 16 Virginia with a 5-2 win Friday night in Charlottesville.
McKay, who allowed just one run over six innings on the mound, cracked an 8th inning home run to break a tie and put the Cards ahead for good. Colby Fitch swatted a pair f home runs himself to lead the Cardinal offense.
Sophomore lefty Adam Wolf notched his first career victory after working an inning of relief, and junior righty Lincoln Henzman picked up his sixth save of the season. The game was delayed nearly three hours because of rain, and didn’t end until 12:21 a.m. ET.
U of L is now 23-2 overall with a 9-1 record in conference play. Virginia fell to 20-7 and 4-6 in the ACC. The Cardinals and Cavaliers will play game two of their series on Saturday at 4 p.m., and then round out the series on Sunday at 1.
