Recap: Louisville Turns Things Around Against the Hokies

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville came into Blacksburg with a 2 game losing streak and for 3 quarters things were close.  However, with just a 2 point lead heading into the 4th quarter the Cards got momentum and pulled away for a 88-70 victory over the Hokies.

The other night on his call in show somebody asked Coach Jeff Walz what a player had to do to get out of his doghouse.  Laughing he replied, "I don't have a dog, why would I have a doghouse?"  Jokes aside, sophomore Sam Fuehring has seemed to spend a lot of time this season in his metaphorical doghouse.  Tonight she may have earned her way out for awhile.  Not only did she get a double-double (11 points/11 rebounds) but she came up big during one of the most crucial stretches of play.  With just over 5 minutes to go she got a big rebound for a put back to push the score to 73-63.  On the next defensive possession she took a charge.  Then she came back down and had a beautiful assist to Mariya Moore.  Hopefully this will give Sam the confidence she needs to help give the team a boost heading into the post-season.

Briahanna Jackson was on the bench again with back trouble, but Myisha Hines-Allen retuned to the line-up.  After the game Coach Walz said that before the game he issued her the directive, "Get to the glass, and rebound the ball!"  She obliged grabbing 13 boards while adding 13 points.  Apparently Mariya Moore didn't get the memo that it was exact double-double night so instead she scored 17 points and dished 11 assists.  Asia Durr added a team high 30 points.

The Cards come back home to play Boston College on Sunday at 3PM.  Coach Walz says they need the crowd for this game.  It can also be seen on RSN/FOX.
