Romeo Langford to hold off on making a commitment

The talented guard from across the river is going to let his recruitment play out a bit.

Cardinal fans who follow college basketball recruiting, even at a casual pace, are well aware of the composite 5-star guard from New Albany, Romeo Langford.

Langford has all of the offers that you would imagine a person this talented to have, but has shown the most interest in Duke, Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky, and in-state program Indiana. Those expecting Langford to make a decision, however, are going to have to wait a bit more. Langford recently told the Courier-Journal that he won’t make a decision on which college he’ll attend until at least next season.

“It’s going to be at the beginning of the season or after the season,“ said Langford, leaving open the possibility he could wait until April's late signing period.

As it stands, Duke is the favorite to land Langford. While Langford probably ends up a Blue Devil, it’s likely a good thing that he isn’t going to make a decision yet. Kenny Johnson will now have more time to build a relationship with Romeo to hopefully get him to stay home for college. With that said, it’s still going to be a difficult task to hold off Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky (sorry, IU, but we don’t even know who your coach will be next year).

Obviously a top talent in the country, it doesn’t seem like Langford is letting all of this attention get to his head.

“I don’t want anyone who wants my autograph not to get it,” he said. “I don’t want a kid to leave sad or mad because they didn’t get my autograph. I have time to do it. I have nothing else to do. Why not stay after (the game) and do it?"

In the one-and-done era and the “me first” attitude that recruits are starting to have, it’s nice to see a young man not let his growing stardom make him become a self-centered person.
