Recap: Cards Fall to Wolfpack in OT

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

On superhero night the Cards were without their Supergirl.  Myisha Hines-Allen sat out the game with an undisclosed injury.  Things started OK.  Louisville had a 24-10 lead at the end of first quarter and a 11-7 edge in rebounding.  However, in the 2nd quarter the absence of the pre-season Player of the Year was apparent.  The Wolfpack out rebounded the Cards 14-3 and cut the lead to 31-28.

In the second half Louisville got down by 10 and then fought back.  In the last couple of minutes in regulation the lead seesawed back and forth before Asia Durr sank two free throws to send the game into overtime with 6 seconds left.  Basically it came down to which team had the ball last and unfortunately that was NC State.  Miah Spencer's jumper bounced tauntingly around the rim before finally falling through as time expired to give them the 70-72 win.

Asia Durr battled foul trouble in the first half and had 0 points but finished the game with 22.  Mariya Moore had 20 points and 8 rebounds.  After the game Coach Walz wondered who was going to be his third scorer if Myisha can't play.  He said that tonight was their chance and some people didn't make the most of it. He added, "Every basket matters when you're playing in this league," and that we had great looks but didn't always convert whereas NC State did.

Next up the Cards travel to South Bend to play #7 Notre Dame on Mon. Feb. 6th at 7PM.  The game can be seen on ESPN2.
