Louisville scores a school record 115 points in win over Murray St.

NCAA Womens Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Oklahoma City Regional-Baylor vs Louisville Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Not only did the women’s basketball team set a school record of 115 points in a game today, but they did so with their two leading scorers on the season only combining for 15 points. Prior to the game Asia Durr was acknowledged for joining the 1,000 point scorers club, but she only added 7 points to the 115-51 drubbing of Murray State. However, Coach Walz said after the game that a school record is great but more importantly they are “buying in to team wins.”

Sophomore Kylee Shook led all scorers with 21 points. She looks like she’s coming off an injury in the off-season (judging by the brace on her leg maybe a high ankle sprain?) and hasn’t looked as comfortable as she did last season. Her shot was dropping tonight, but she has seemed frustrated on defense and less aggressive. At 6’4” she’d only grabbed 1 rebound with a few minutes left to go in the game. Coach Walz said, “I’m not concerned with her offense. We’ve got to...work to get her to become a force defensively.”

One player who did NOT have any trouble rebounding today was sophomore Bionca Dunham. Not only did she grab 16 boards but she also added 19 points for her first career double-double.

While games like this aren’t always the most scintillating ones to watch, Coach Walz said that it was beneficial because “now we have film to show them [the subs] why they don’t get more minutes.”

Next up for the Cards is a game in Bloomington against IU. It is at 8pm on November 30th and can be seen on BTN.
