Recap: Louisville Gets Win Against Pitt

Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville never really seemed to be in the flow tonight, but they did enough things right to come away with a good road victory against Pitt.

The first half wasn't a thing of beauty but the Cards did get a nice lift from 2 consecutive threes from Brianna Jones.  She gave the Cards their first lead (26-24) since the early moments of the game off of a nifty behind the back pass from Briahanna Jackson.  Brianna also had some quality minutes against Pitt a few weeks ago so maybe there's something in that matchup that Coach Walz likes.

Going into the 3rd quarter the Panthers held a slim 2 point lead.  The Cards would flip the script and go on a run holding Pitt to just 2 points until the last couple of minutes of the quarter.  The 2 point deficit grew to a 10 point lead and Pitt wouldn't recover.  They still made a couple of runs but Louisville stopped the small momentum shifts to maintain a decent lead.  The final score was 63-48.

As Brianna seems to play well against Pitt, Asia Durr seems to struggle a bit.  She got benched in the first game for the second half and tonight she had 0 points and 0 rebounds in the 3rd quarter.  However she rallied and finished the game with 13 points and 2 rebounds.  Mariya Moore also had a nice game and finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds.

Louisville plays next at home on Thursday, February 2nd.  The game is at 7PM and can be seen on ACCN Extra.  It is also Superhero Night so come dressed to reflect your inner Spiderman or Wonder Woman.
