Friday morning Cardinal news and notes

Paul, Ben, and Abby Self are letting everyone in Myanmar (Burma) know that Ryan McMahon is about to destroy Dennis Smith Jr.

I_medium Louisville is up to No. 6 in Ken Pomeroy's updated rankings. Their offensive efficiency number took a huge jump after the demolition of Pitt on Tuesday.

I_medium I'm doing an Ask Me Anything over on Reddit's college basketball site today at noon. Stop by and ask cool questions or just make me feel bad. Either way it'll be fun.

I_medium I know that we live in a time of extreme overreactions, but I feel confident in saying that this is without question the worst flop I've ever seen.

I_medium Kyle Bolin's younger brother, Clay, is transferring to Louisville from Morehead State and will join the team as a walk-on.

I_medium Bad news for Jamari Staples, who was having a big week of practice at the Senior Bowl but will now be out for the game after suffering a concussion.

I_medium Mark Ennis explains why we should be happy with the 2017 Louisville football schedule.

I_medium Louisville is No. 12 in latest college hoops power rankings from Yahoo.

12. Louisville | 17-4 | KenPom: 6 | Last week: 15

Louisville fell in these rankings last week solely because of the Quentin Snider injury. In light of that expected drop-off with Snider sidelined, the Cardinals had one of the most impressive weeks of any team, hanging with Florida State on the road before delivering Pittsburgh the second-largest margin of defeat the Panthers had ever seen. The 106-51 beatdown was the biggest by a road team in the history of the ACC.

I_medium Louisville City FC has committed to a new stadium plan.

I_medium Louisiana Tech ended last night's game against UAB with four players after all their bench players got ejected during a fight.

I_medium The U of L baseball team is No. 8 in the preseason poll from USA Today.

I_medium Art.

I_medium Athlon ranks Cardinal offensive lineman Ronald Rudd as the No. 6 transfer to watch in the ACC this season.

I_medium Kansas is dealing with some serious ish right now. Carlton Bragg has been suspended for Saturday's game against Kentucky, but it's not related to the ongoing rape investigation that has led to five Jayhawk players being interviewed.

I_medium ESPN debates whether Louisville is a playoff pretender or contender, and then settles on pretender.

Verdict: Pretender. The window likely closed at the end of last season. Bobby Petrino is a good enough coach that it'll be open again, but just not in 2017. There isn't enough reason to believe yet that Jackson will be hit less, and there are a lot of changes on defense. If Jackson remains for his senior season, this could be a playoff team in 2018. Sell the Cardinals this season, though.

I_medium Trinity linebacker Isaac Martin is coming to U of L as a preferred walk-on.

I_medium Indiana swimming and diving is hosting Louisville today.

I_medium The Cardinal track and field team is also headed to Bloomington this weekend.

I_medium Duke is having the weirdest season ever.

I_medium And finally, I'm flying solo on R&R today from 3-6 so please call or tweet or make Cat Barber jokes somewhere where I can see them so I won't get lonely. Or just listen here.
