The Cardinal Countdown: 10 Days Until Kickoff

Position: Cornerback

Hometown: Charlotte, NC

Thoughts: Ho hum, just another underclassman in the secondary who is already making a name for himself less than two years into his career as a Louisville Cardinal. Many saw Jaire as a player who could have an impact as a freshman, including one of your favorite Louisville authors…..me, you jerk.

When I write the post for Alexander next season I have a pretty strong feeling I won’t have to tell he’s a future star…because he may already be one.

Saying he’s a ‘star’ may be a slight overstatement, but playing in twelve games, grabbing 19 tackles and an interception playing corner, and by all accounts taking the starting spot opposite Tru Washington this fall means he’s well on his way. Oh, and he just so happens to be one of the best punt return men Louisville has had in almost 10 years (in terms of return yardage), and considered by many as one of the best in the country. I enjoyed this one…

If you watched Jaire play corner last year we all saw a few instances where the “freshman” leaked out, whether it be playing the ball wrong, being in the wrong position, or flat out getting beat at times. That’s to be expected. What I also saw was that those occurrences, those mistakes, didn’t happen all that often. One would assume Jaire has improved after some pretty solid play last year (depth chart would agree) so I’m excited to see him develop in the secondary…and maybe he can take one or two punts back to house this season for the Louisville author who bought in on him since day one…me, you jerks.

Sweet Tweet:

Jaire’s coming for your job Paul. Sure hope he never comes after my job…or my wife for that matter. Not a bad looking dude….

….this has been a loooong offseason.
