The bright future for Louisville at the quarterback position isn't just about Lamar Jackson, Kyle Bolin and Jawon Pass.
Malik Cunningham, the elite Alabama quarterback who committed to the Cardinals back in April, put on quite the show in the first game of his senior season for Park Crossing High School (Montgomery). Cunningham accounted for 273 total yards (206 of it coming in the first half) and all four of his team's touchdowns as Park Crossing rolled to a 30-20 win over powerful Jeff Davis High in the MPS Kickoff Classic at Alabama State Stadium.
More than 5,100 spectators were in attendance to see Louisville commit Malik Cunningham put on a show, totaling four touchdowns in the victory.
"You knew that, everybody else in the state knew what was going to happen at the end of the day," Cunningham said. "That's why coach told us to keep it quiet and we were going to show who's all been working on the field."
Cunningham finished 14-for-22 passing for 179 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran 20 times for 94 yards and two scores.
His two-yard touchdown run with 3:01 left put the game out of reach.
"As long as he's healthy, we've got a chance," Park Crossing coach Smitty Grider said of Cunningham. "He did a great job of managing the offense, and that's not something you normally say with a guy that's as good as him. He's not a manager, but he managed it well tonight."
Over the past two seasons, Cunningham has thrown for more than 3,600 yards and 41 touchdowns, while also rushing for 556 yards and 11 more scores. He picked U of L despite holding scholarship offers from Georgia and LSU, and being recruited by both Alabama and Auburn ... who still have eyes on the talented signal caller.
Have a big season, young fella. Also, pay no attention to the SEC voices.
