Louisville continued adding to its recruiting class of 2017 on Friday by accepting a commitment from Fort Smith, AR cornerback Tre Norwood. Norwood (5'11, 170) is the 17th commitment for the Cardinals' 2017 class. He is the 8th recruit to commit in July and the 2nd in the past two days. You can watch his highlight video below:
Norwood is Louisville's sixth commitment from a defensive back for this class. Going into this spring and summer, landing versatile, rangy defensive backs with size relative to their respective positions was clearly the goal of Todd Grantham and his retooled defensive staff. Now with six defensive backs, all demonstrably bigger than many of the commits in Petrino's first two classes since returning, it's safe to say they've accomplished their goal. Norwood picked Louisville over offers from Minnesota, Wake Forest, and Memphis among others.
At 5'11, 170, Norwood shows good man to man cover skills in the video above while having a frame that can carry more muscle weight. His commitment pushes Louisville's class into the 30s on most of the ratings services with big targets at quarterback, running back, and defensive line still out there. Louisville is steadily moving toward putting together back to back classes among the best in school history.
