Louisville drops series at Boston College, but Funkhouser becomes first Card to win 30 games

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville's road woes continued over the weekend against Boston College, but the series did end with some positive history for Kyle Funkhouser.

After dropping the first two games of the series, U of L bounced back for a 6-2 Sunday afternoon win in Chestnut Hill in which Funkhuser became the first 30-game winner in Cardinal baseball history. He worked six innings, allowing two runs on four hits to pick up the honor.

At the plate, junior catcher Will Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and sophomore shortstop Devin Hairston ended his big week by blasting a solo home run.

The Sunday victory salvaged an otherwise negative weekend for the Cards, whose bats went silent on Friday and Saturday in 6-1 and 2-1 losses to the Eagles. Those two defeats ensured that Louisville would maintain its dubious status of still not having won a series away from Jim Patterson Stadium.
