Louisville has one basketball scholarship remaining for the 2016-17, and it appears focused on the moment at using that scholarship on 3-star guard Christian Vital, a member of the 2016 recruiting class.
Vital, who is down to the Cards, Connecticut and Iowa, visited U of L last weekend and discussed the experience with SNY.tv.
"I enjoyed everything from the coaching staff, team, facilities, and the people in the city of Louisville," he told SNY.tv. "It's a great place."
Vital decommitted from UNLV after the coaching change and recently cut his list to three schools, Louisville, UConn and Iowa. He took an official to UConn early last week, along with Brewster (N.H.) Academy big man Taurean Thompson.
"I'm a guy who can play either guard spot so that versatility helps me and the team," Vital said of Louisville. "They are looking for me to help our right away if I was to go next year. They feel that I have developed a lot over the past year and are looking for that to continue if I was to go there."
Vital visited UConn the weekend before last and says he's still talking with Iowa about setting up a visit.
If Vital winds up picking Connecticut or Iowa, I think it's more and more likely that Louisville eats that final scholarship and goes ahead and braces for the reduction coming in 2017-18 ... unless a grad transfer pops onto their radar.
