Cunningham is a composite three-star prospect according to 247Sports ratings system. He's considered a dual-threat quarterback or an "athlete" by the various recruiting services. He's also ranked one of the top 30 players in the state of Alabama for the class of 2017, a class that is particularly deep with talent.
Cunningham continues Louisville's trend of recruiting dual-threat, dynamic athletes at quarterback and integrating more option type of plays into the offense (Reggie Bonnafon, Lamar Jackson, Jawon Pass). Reportedly, Louisville helped put itself over the top in his recruitment over schools that he listed offers from (LSU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and more) by emphasizing that he will get a chance to play quarterback. But, he's a good enough athlete to find his way onto the field at any number of positions if quarterback doesn't ultimately work out. Given that Louisville already at least two more seasons of Lamar Jackson as well as Jawon Pass arriving this fall, Cunningham will time to work that out when he arrives in 2017.
Cunningham is Louisville's second commitment for the class of 2017.
