Louisville junior outfielder Corey Ray was named Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week on Monday, while North Carolina's Zac Gallen was selected as Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Chicago, Ray hit .667 (6-for-9) with two home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored and was 6-for-6 on stolen bases in No. 2 Louisville's three-game sweep of SIU Edwardsville during the opening weekend of the 2016 season. The preseason All-American connected for home runs and was 3-for-3 on stolen bases in each of the final two games against the Cougars. He also added an outfield assist on Saturday and made a leaping catch at the wall on Sunday to rob an SIUE hitter of an extra-base hit.
Up next, No. 2 Louisville concludes its season-opening four-game homestand with a visit from Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday at 3 p.m., ET at Jim Patterson Stadium and admission is free. Radio coverage of the game will be available on 1450 WXVW.
