Louisville women top Kentucky, 69-67 in overtime

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

After dropping back-to-back games and being publicly chastised by their head coach in a postgame rant that went viral, the Louisville women's basketball team bounced back in the biggest of ways Sunday afternoon.

The Cards got 26 points from junior star Myisha Hines-Allen and topped arch-rival Kentucky 69-67 in overtime at the KFC Yum Center. The victory snapped a brutal five-game losing streak for U of L in the Bluegrass series.

In three of the past four meetings against Kentucky, Louisville had lost a game in which it had led by 14 points or more. The Cards held a narrow lead for the majority of the game, but this time were able to answer the bell when they found themselves down 54-50 with two minutes to play in regulation. U of L pulled even at 56 all, and survived a late turnover that allowed Kentucky star Makayla Epps to attempt a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Louisville got the extra period off on the right foot when Asia Durr buried a 3-pointer on the Cards' first possession. That gave the 7th-ranked Cards an advantage they wouldn't relinquish again.

One down, one to go in 17 days.
