A rough Thanksgiving weekend for U of L athletics ended on a high note thanks to the Louisville men's soccer team. Ken Lolla's Cardinals took down Notre Dame 3-1 at Lynn Stadium on Sunday to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament Elite 8.

Tate Schmitt's goal near the midway point of the second half broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be what put the Cards ahead for good. Leading scorer Mohamed Thiaw netted the game's first goal with his 12th of the 2016 season, and Cherif Dieye put an exclamation point on the match via a final score with just six seconds remaining.

Louisville will now host either Stanford or Virginia next Saturday at Lynn Stadium with a trip to the program's first College Cup since 2010 on the line. This is the first time that U of L has advanced to the tournament quarterfinals since 2012, when they were defeated by Maryland.
