In a clash of top 10 opponents Friday night at Lynn Stadium, the 8th-ranked Louisville men's soccer team took down No. 3 Syracuse, 1-0. The victory marked the Cards' second top five triumph of the 2016 season.
Junior Mohamed Thiaw played hero yet again, netting his ninth goal of the season in the 23rd minute to give the Cards the win. The nine goals for Thiaw are the most for a Louisville player since Colin Rolfe had back-to-back nine-goal seasons in 2010 and 2011.
Graduate transfer goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland also did his part for Ken Lolla's side, notching a season-high six saves to record his eighth shutout of the season.
The victory moves Louisville to 9-1-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in ACC play. The Cards also extended their unbeaten streak against the Orange to eight games, and moved to 8-3-1 all-time in games against ranked opponents at Lynn Stadium.
Next up for U of L is regional rival and sixth-ranked Indiana, which comes to Lynn Stadium for a match Tuesday night at 7.
