Louisville's first home loss of the season wound up being the most lopsided Cardinal defeat in the short history of the KFC Yum Center. No. 11 Virginia dominated things from start to finish on their way to a 63-47 romp.
As much as I want to roll with a "these things are happening in college basketball, let's move on and get ready for Carolina" mentality here, it's impossible to just brush aside the fact that this was as bad as a U of L team has looked in a long time ... maybe since the 31-point loss at Providence in 2012. If it were just a case of shots not falling like it was against Duke last season, then that would be one thing, but Louisville got outworked and looked unprepared from start to finish against a UVA team that is never going to beat itself. That's not something I thought we'd have to worry about with this team.
Both Louisville players who scored in double figures came off the bench (Ray Spalding and Deng Adel), and Donovan Mitchell was the lone Cardinal to finish with more assists than turnovers. He had one assist. Adel was the lone Card to shoot better than 50 percent from the field. He was 5 for 9.
I mean I guess it's a good thing that arguably the best team in the country is rolling in here in 48 hours because it gives everyone less time to think about this and it gives the team a quick chance to rectify things, but man, it's hard to envision Louisville beating UNC if Monday night's performance resembles this afternoon's in the least bit.
We'll talk more about this (and have Rick Pitino's comments) shortly, but for now, stare at this box score and start drinking heavily:
