Louisville football recruiting: Rivals 250 safety Jaquelle Green commits

New, 37 comments

Of all positions one would have expected the new Petrino staff to recruit so well, I'm not sure safety was one of them. But it is, and today they added Rivals 250 four star safety Jaquelle Green from Mississippi to the 2016 class commitment list.

This is actually a photo of everyone that wants to play quarterback or safety for Louisville.

Of all the positions expected to be easy for Louisville and Bobby Petrino's new staff to easily recruit, I don't think anyone thought one would be safety. However, Louisville landed a solid set of safeties in 2015 in Dee Smith and Khane Pass and now for 2016 added a commitment from Rivals 250 safety Jaquelle Green to an already talented group of defensive back commitments for 2016.

Green is the latest in what is becoming a rather long list of Alabama and Mississippi prospects to opt for the Cardinals over other Power 5 offers. 247Sports lists him as a composite three-star prospect (Scout also lists him as a three-star safety while ESPN and Rivals both have him a four-star player). His recruiting profiles on the various services list him as having received offers from SEC powers Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama. He was also a big target for the staff at Mississippi State.

While there's still a long way before now and signing day, this is still a positive for Louisville. Adding Green's commitment to those of cornerbacks Baylen Buchanan and Rodjay Burns as well as safeties Lamarques Thomas and Chris Taylor-Yamanoha (who lists as a WR but is most likely a defensive back in college) gives Louisville plenty of defensive back talent for the foreseeable future.
