Louisville received a commitment from one of its final prized targets when Mississippi safety prospect Lamarques Thomas committed Thursday evening.

Raise your hand if you just got a commitment from a really good safety over some SEC schools!

With few remaining spots left in the Louisville recruiting class of 2016, finding an additional safety prospect remained a high priority. Late Thursday night, Louisville got its man when Clinton, MS safety Lamarques Thomas committed to Louisville. Thomas is a composite three-star safety according to 247Sports composite ranking system. He is rated a 5.7 (the highest rating shy of four-star) by Rivals.com who also lists him as the #12 player in Mississippi.

Similar to Tim Bonner, Amonte Caban, and Dee Smith last year, and Jawon Pass in 2016, Thomas picked Louisville over a host of offers from SEC schools. According to Rivals and 247Sports, he had offers from in-state schools Mississippi State and Ole Miss, as well as Missouri.

Safety looks to remain a position of strength for the Louisville defense for the forseeable future. Petrino and staff got Dee Smith and Khane Pass for the class of 2015. Chucky Williams is currently starting as a sophomore. And now they've added the commitments of Thomas and Seth Dawkins for 2016.
