Chinanu Onuaku's jewelry collection just got slightly larger.
Nanu and his FIBA Under 19 USA squad fought off a significant challenge this afternoon, defeating the Croatians 79-71 in overtime, to defend last years World Championship. In doing so, the United States became the first country to complete a title defense in this event since finishing the same challenge back in 1983.
The US team was lead by MVP Jalen Brunson (Villanova freshman) who had a team high 14 points and 7 assists. Croatia played much better against the US today than they did in pool play earlier in the tournament, especially guard Nik Slavica who finished with 23 points. Croatia shot 45% from the field to keep it close throughout but could not match the deep threat from the US who shot 45% from 3 point range. Onuaku finished today's game with 6 points and 8 rebounds in 27:27, besting his tournament averages (4.6/5) over the seven games played.
Congrats to Nanu and the rest of Team USA on their title defense.
