Thoughts: While it’s not exactly the pipeline to Florida that Charlie helped maintain, the Cards have grabbed some talented players from Iowa Western Community College over the last few years including Trevon Young, Ryan Hubbell and now Luke Schultheiss. Luke was a guard coming out of high school and had some interest from a couple Midwest schools (Iowa St/Nebraska) before they cooled off on him late in the process. The negative that I’m sure Luke gets tired of hearing about will be his size. At 6-1/284 Luke will be one of the smallest linemen on the roster. I have no doubt the program UofL has him on will add some weight and muscle tone but no matter what they do they can’t stretch his arms to help improve his reach, and that can be detrimental against a big defensive end. Obviously Klenakis and Petrino saw something they liked, and just like we discussed in the comments section of Day 73 (see what you miss if you don’t read the comments) the Petrino offense looks at linemen much differently than the past coaching staff. Charlie and Coach Borbely wanted power guys with big bodies to provide an initial push on runs and plug holes on pass protection. Petrino on the other hand asks for the lineman to have active hands and feet and they really need more athleticism than the prior classes, including the capability to block down field. If there is a position this year that Luke could potentially steal some snaps it would be on the line, but I’d be surprised to see him beat out some of the larger and more physical players who have a year in the new system under their belt. At his size Luke could get some reps at center and may work his way into a backup role moving forward.

I knew I liked this kid.
Easily a Top 5 drink of all time. No debating. I’m serious. It is literally non-debatable. Come at me with some “orange juice” and we WILL have problems.
