Maverick Rowan is 'still considering everything'

A day after Louisville fans saw the biggest name on their football recruiting radars pledge his allegiance to the Cards, the biggest target on the basketball side of things sounds like he's not as close to pulling the trigger.

"I'm still considering everything," Maverick Rowan told Zag's Blog writer Ryan Fish after his USA South squad beat Pan Africa 91-70 Thursday afternoon.

The 6'5 sharpshooter who is attempting to reclassify to 2015 has been on U of L's radar for what feels like the better part of a decade now. He was considered a Cardinal lean throughout the spring until reports surfaced that he and Louisville had ceased communicating late last month. The two sides apparently reunited shortly thereafter, as Rowan included the Cards on his "new list" of four teams (St. John's NC State and Wisconsin were also included).

Rowan said at last weekend's Peach Jam that his college decision could come within the next week or so, but he wasn't so sure about that when he spoke with Fish on Thursday. He did, however, make no bones about what the biggest factor is in his decision.

"I need to play right away," Rowan said. "Like I said before, I'm not gonna sit on the bench until my senior year. That's the way it is.

"I think [playing time] is everywhere with those four schools. I wouldn't consider them if I didn't think I could go there and play right away."

Even if Rowan does successfully reclassify and eventually commit and sign with Louisville, it appears as though it won't be possible for him to make the trip with the team to Puerto Rico next month. He would need to be enrolled at U of L to make that happen, and the school's final summer session began on July 8 and ends on August 11.
