The Cardinal Countdown: 56 Days Until Kickoff

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

#56 Kiola Mahoni

Class: Sophomore

Ht/Wt: 6-3/300

Position: Offensive Line

Hometown: San Mateo, CA

Twitter: @kmahoni1

Thoughts: Mahoni comes to the Cards via the College of San Mateo, the same place current defensive lineman Pio Vatuvei arrived from. Mahoni picked the Cards over Cincinnati, Mississippi State and UNLV based upon the fact that the potential for immediate playing time was on the table with the departure of 4 linemen from 2014. Even though all spots are "open" at this time one would think Pedro, Hughley and Epps have earned a spot leaving an opening at right guard and whichever tackle spot Epps doesn’t end up at. Mahoni may not have the size for the tackle spot so I'd guess right guard is where he’ll get some looks starting out. I’ll be interested to see how Kiola stacks up against Lacy and possibly true freshman Chandler Jones (not yet on campus) who may earn some PT as the season progresses. I’ll say this, if Kiola impresses me half as much as Pio did last year I’ll be extremely happy with this addition and what he can bring to the offensive line for the next couple seasons.

Sweet Tweet:

I saw this article the other day about trying to get an open seat next to you on an airplane. They said if you need to buy two seats, buy the aisle and the window seat. Few people want to sit in the middle so the majority of the time, if the flight isn’t full, that seat will remain open and you’ll have some room to spread out. You can use a similar strategy even if you only need one ticket. Look for a row where someone has already purchased the window or aisle seat and you buy the other one. It’s not a full proof plan by any means but increases you odds significantly. I flew from Louisville to Vegas a few years back and I was on a row by myself (3 seats). It’s was magical. I pretty much laid down the entire flight and flipped through SkyMall like I owned the damn plane.

If I was forced at gunpoint to rank them I guess I’d still place my marriage and birth of my daughter as 1 and 2….but this was a close 3rd
