Thoughts: If his name sounds familiar to you it’s probably because you have a friend named Geron, otherwise I have no clue who you could be thinking off. If his other name sounds familiar it’s because Geron’s (rhymes with Karen) brother Gerald with the #1 tight end for the fighting football Cardinals last year. Geron was actually a Miami commit in early 2014 but decided towards the end of the year to reopen his recruitment and a couple weeks later he was announcing his commitment to the Cards. Geron got an opportunity to see the campus and get some inside perspective on the program from his family the weekend of the Kentucky game. (He also got to see the Cards continue to own the Wildcats on the football field, but that was probably the least surprising aspect of his visit.) Geron was impressed with the facilities and said it felt like home as soon as he got here. One item of note that I think gets overlooked at times is when a second family member comes to play for the same school/coach. It’s obviously a positive sign for the program and for the coach when a mother and/or father sends another child to play for him. A good indication that the first child was treated with respect and was prepared to play at the next level.

Geron has great size for a true freshman and Petrino praised his feet and athleticism after he signed. While it’s tough to crack the rotation along the line as a true freshman I think Christian is poised to get the opportunity to do just that. Most project Geron to play guard in college so battling Lacy and fellow newcomers Chandler Jones and Khalil Hunter for a spot appears to be his new challenge. If Christian isn’t ready I wouldn’t completely rule out a redshirt but if the guys from last year don't make a big leap I think his assistance will help with depth at the position.

Sweet Tweet:

I’m not saying this was the reason…but I’m not saying it wasn’t either.
