Meet Jay Henderson, Louisville basketball's new walk-on

Earlier this week on our radio show, Rick Pitino mentioned that the team has added a new walk-on whom they would be able to discuss further once he was officially enrolled at U of L. Well, now we have a name: Jay Henderson, who redshirted his freshman season at St. John's as a walk-on in 2014-15.

Henderson, a 6'4 shooting guard of Lakeland Prep (FL), decided to walk on at St. John's last August despite having scholarship offers from Florida State, Seton Hall, Stanford, Purdue, Mississippi State and Dayton, among others. He was reportedly under the impression that he would be receiving a scholarship from the Johnnies after redshirting last season, and when that didn't happen, jumped at the chance to resume his walk-on roll for Rick Pitino at Louisville.

Henderson scored more than 1,000 points during his time at Lakeland Prep, and helped the Highlanders win back-to-back FHSAA Class 4A State Championships. He was a two-time State All-Tournament Team selection and scored 15 points in the 2014 title game to help squad repeat as state champions.

Billed as a terrific spot-up shooter and solid athlete, Henderson's task at Louisville will be adding strength and improving his game off the bounce. Here he is as a senior at Lakeland Prep:

Henderson has four years of eligibility and is eligible to play this season. Welcome to the squad, Jay.
