Thoughts: Hearns was a solid get for the Cards back in 2013, a 4-star linebacker who was previously committed to the Gators and saw some interest from Alabama, Auburn, FSU and others. Year one for Hearns didn’t quite go as planned when an injury derailed his freshman year just two games in. Fortunately, Hearns was able to take a redshirt, battle back, and got some PT last season as a second year freshman which included a start against Clemson in Death Valley. A combination of experience ahead of him and lack of production resulted in Hearns limited game action, although I’m not sure he was back at 100% last year either. Hearns was still listed at the SAM (strongside) linebacker position before the Spring Game but he seemed to move up to the line at defensive end in the new 3-4 front a few times as well. Hearns grabbed a couple tackles in that game, but also had an offsides penalty the first play from scrimmage. (Not an ideal way to start the year, especially for a team ranked 103rd in the nation last season in penalties) If Hearns stays put up front he will likely back up Pio or Sheldon Rankins but as with anything in the spring it’s all fluid and things seem to change weekly. I like his size as a down lineman and we do need to get some guys in training at the position with a couple seniors up there this year, but if Grantham trots him out there against Auburn back at the linebacker spot….I won’t be surprised.

Sweet Tweet:

For what it’s worth, I stack a solid Sunday afternoon nap up there with just about anything these days. Kids will do that to you. Turn on some golf or a baseball game and let the background noise kick you into an hour or so of blissful sleep, waking up refreshed and ready to go get some work done…or go eat dinner. Tomahto, Tamayto.

Now occasionally I may run into someone who gives me the classic “I’m not really a nap person”. Run. Run as fast as you can. This person cannot be trusted. I have an ongoing list and “I don’t take naps” guy falls somewhere between “let me borrow 20 bucks” guy and “I read a couple articles so I know more than the experts” guy. You don’t need these people in your life.
