Rick Pitino appeared on WHAS radio on Wednesday to talk with Terry Meiners about a hoard of topics including the freshly announced game at Michigan State on Dec. 2.

Highlights:

--Was hoping to play Minnesota at Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and if that didn't happen, he wanted to play Ohio State at Ohio State. Instead, we're going to probably the toughest place in the Big Ten with Michigan State.

--Been in shock during the trip home because of the schedule. The road schedule is something that I've never seen in my 30 years as a head coach. We have to be up to the task, which is why that Puerto Rico trip is so important.

--Richard told me that Michigan State and Indiana were the toughest places to play in the Big 10 and that Nebraska is probably third.

--They're going to go to the 30 second clock, but that's not going to make a big difference. The only way to pick up scoring is to call the game closer, but they tried that and the fans didn't like it.

--I don't know how this year's team is going to look, but that's why the 5th year seniors are so important. We needed to create some scoring and Trey Lewis and Damion Lee can provide that. But everyone is new and so you have to figure out how to mesh.

--We have one scholarship left and we're beating the bushes to figure out how to use it.

--We're going to be a talented team, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to be good. That Puerto Rico trip is going to tell us a lot and is going to be really important for us.

--I really don't believe that Tom Brady asked for the balls to be deflated. Am I being naive? Possibly, but I think that punishment was extreme. I'd really like to know the truth on that matter.
