Louisville baseball tops Duke, wins 6th straight ACC series

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

The fifth-ranked Louisville baseball remained unbeaten in ACC series' this season by taking down Duke 11-1 in Durham Sunday afternoon. The Cards took game 1 of the series via a 1-0 win over the Blue Devils on Friday, but dropped a 2-1 decision on Saturday.

Freshman Brendan McKay was the offensive star for U of L in the rubber match, driving in three runs and reaching base four times. Sutton Whiting drove in four runs of his own, while Corey Ray launched his team-best sixth home run of the season.

That was more than enough help for sophomore lefty Josh Rogers, who improved to 6-1 on the season by striking out seven Duke hitters and allowing just one run over five innings. A trio of Cardinal relievers then came in to work a scoreless final four innings.

With just four conference series' remaining in the regular season, Louisville now owns a 5-game lead over Florida State in the ACC's Atlantic Division standings. The Cards also improved to 8-2 this season in true road games.
