After a couple years of Selection Sunday frustration, it would seem as though Louisville fans are finally satisfied with a Cardinal draw.
U of L is a No. 4 seed in the East Region, and will begin its quest to make its third Final Four in the past four years on Friday, when it faces No. 13 seed UC-Irvine, the champions of the Big West. The Anteaters enter the tournament with a 21-12 record, and are perhaps most notable for being the home of 7'6 center Mamadou Ndiaye, the tallest player in college basketball.
Should they advance to the round of 32, Louisville could face fifth-seeded Northern Iowa from the Missouri Valley or 12th-seeded Wyoming. Top-seeded Villanova likely awaits the winner of U of L's pod in the Sweet 16.
Here's the full region:
It's hard to be upset about being seeded a line above where most people thought you would be, landing in the region with the (perceived) weakest No. 1 seed, and a two seed that you've already beaten once. Now it's all a matter of taking advantage of the circumstances.
The beautiful journey begins again on Friday in Seattle. We'll have a post on the game time and the television station once that information is released ... which, before everyone in the Western world begins asking, should be announced at some point tonight. Just know that it's on the West Coast, which means the earliest it could start would be around 5 p.m. on East Coast.
Friday night party. I don't hate it.
