Here's the release from U of L:
University of Louisville women's basketball freshman Mariya Moore is being honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference and College Sports Madness following a week in which the Cardinals won both of their conference games.
Moore earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors in addition to being named College Sports Madness' ACC Player of the Week and National Player of the Week on Monday.
The California native averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in helping the Cardinals win consecutive league games, moving Louisville to 22-3 overall, 10-2 in league action. She currently leads the team with five 20-point performances this year.
Moore scored a game- and season-high 28 points against No. 17 North Carolina on Sunday, the most points by a UofL freshman since Shoni Schimmel had 33 against Xavier on March 22, 2011. In the game against the Tar Heels, Moore set a Louisville freshman record with 11 made free throws. Earlier in the week, Moore tallied 15 points and eight assists against Clemson on Thursday.
She shot a stellar 20-for-22 (.909) from the free throw line and ranks 12th in the ACC in free throw percentage (.775).
A 6-foot forward, Moore leads the team and ranks 15th in the ACC scoring (14.1), while boasting a team-best 98 assists. She is the only freshman to sit in the top 15 in scoring and top 10 in assists (3.9) in the ACC. She also boasts the best assist-turnover ratio (1.7) of any freshman in the league.
No. 8 Louisville, which is tied for second in the conference standings, has consecutive road games in the coming week. The Cardinals play at Virginia Tech on Thursday on ESPN3 and then take on No. 4 Notre Dame in South Bend on ESPN2 Big Monday.
