In what has become one of the worst holiday traditions in Louisville, the U of L women's basketball team fell to Kentucky for a fifth straight season with a 72-54 loss Thursday night at Rupp Arena.
In each of the previous three meetings in the series, Louisville had lost a game to UK which it led by at least 14 points. The Cards didn't make things as interesting in 2015, quickly falling behind 7-0 and never seriously challenging the unbeaten and 8th-ranked Wildcats.
The star for Kentucky was once again sophomore Makayla Epps, who scored 24 points and connected on all but one of her 11 field goal attempts. Briahanna Jackson led Louisville with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Recent history has shown that losing to Kentucky hasn't had much of a negative affect on Louisville in the grand scheme of things, but after the last four years, you know that everyone associated with Cardinal basketball wanted to have this one. The 3-5 Cards will return to action on Sunday when they host IUPUI at 2 p.m. inside the Yum Center.
