Louisville Lands Trey Smith, Jimmy Smith's Son

Andy Lyons

Louisville received a commitment from three-star athlete Trey Smith out of Madison, Miss. late Tuesday night. Smith is the son of former five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Jimmy Smith, who is most known from his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Smith, who chose the Cardinals over Mississippi State, shared his commitment with the world Wednesday morning.

The The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Smith is making the move from running back to quarterback for his senior season of high school ball, but he's expected to be used as a slot receiver/specialty player at the next level.

"I'm just a playmaker; that's what they've been telling me," Smith told The Courier-Journal. "When the game's going down, I can be the guy to make that big play.

"I think I fit in good with the offense. The quarterback is a pretty much young guy and going to be there for a while, so he can probably help me out. I just have to go in there and work my butt off and hopefully try to earn a little bit of playing time when I get there."
