Two Cardinal Commits Receive 5-Star Status

Andy Lyons

Since the July period, recruiting analysts across the board have been saying that observers should expect a jump in the recruiting rankings for all three Louisville commits from the class of 2015.

247 Sports was the first of the major networks to make good on that promise, bumping both Ray Spalding and Donovan Mitchell up from four-star to five-star status earlier this week. The two players are now ranked as the 21st and 28th best players in the class, respectively.

The ironic aspect of this news is that Deng Adel, the only member of the trio who had previously received five-star status from a recruiting network, is still listed as a four-star. He checks in just behind Spalding and Mitchell on the top 100 list at No. 32.

These updated rankings have given Louisville the No. 2 overall class in the country, trailing only Sean Miller's class at Arizona.

Not bad for a guy who lost his passion for the game and who stopped being able to recruit a decade ago. Also, Kenny Johnson was a solid hire.
