Monday Morning Cardinal News And Notes

That's George Katchak taking the 2014 CCBM Summer Tour all the way out to the not-so-frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

I_medium Congratulations to Jeff Walz and U of L freshman Mariya Moore, who helped lead the U-18 Women's National Team to a 104-74 victory over Canada on Sunday to claim USA Basketball's seventh-consecutive gold medal in the FIBA Americas U-18 Championship.

I_medium Bobby Petrino is still a perfectionist when it comes to offense.

The Cardinals' initial workouts have yielded encouraging signs about presumed starting QB Will Gardner and other offensive skill players. But Petrino said the whole unit has a way to go to be productive and has expects improvement over the next few practices.

"Offensively, it just takes a little time to get to where you need to be," the coach said during Saturday's media day session.

Execution on both sides of the ball is important for Louisville as it prepares to enter the Atlantic Coast Conference. With defending national champion Florida State, Clemson and Notre Dame on the schedule, the Cardinals must be able to put points on the board and Petrino believes that objective starts with practice proficiency.

Gardner has taken that message to heart.

"We're still putting in the offense in and you can't really stress about it," the redshirt sophomore said, "but you still have to have that sense of urgency and still be able to have fun."

I_medium Message board posting Miami fans seem to be both angry and confident, which is pretty much the personality pattern for every Internet fan base...except this one. I'd say we're more irreverent and dick jokey.

I_medium How the ACC stacks up against the other big five conferences when it comes to 2014 football recruiting.

I_medium Beautiful.

I_medium After a frustrating freshman season and an offseason that saw him in the headlines for the wrong reasons, James Quick is ready to make a positive impact for Louisville football.

He also huddled with the other members of Louisville's talented group of receivers, guys who had to earn their way on the field earlier in their careers. Damian Copeland was a veteran who had the trust of the coaching staff. He was impossible to overtake.

"I asked them, ‘Is it really going to be like this?' " Quick said. "They said, ‘Yeah, you've got to accept it and try to win a starting position.'

"That's what I did, I tried to compete for a starting position."

James Quick will earn a starting position this season. In fact, I'm convinced he's the best choice for a breakout star on this Louisville team.

"I would hope to say I'm a good choice," he said. "Playing behind Copeland last year, getting that experience and actually playing in big games, it gives me a confidence that I can play better this year."

I_medium Lots of tweets and messages about weekend interactions with KIAGFLs, but I really enjoyed this one.

I_medium Heading into his senior season, DeVante Parker is still all action, little talk.

I_medium Love you, Rors.

I_medium I know it was an exhibition game, but Indiana lost to a team from Ottawa with a player named "unknown" in their box score.

I_medium And finally, Ms. CC is going to officially become Mrs. CC on Saturday, so posting is going to be a bit spotty at times this week, and virtually non-existent (at least from yours truly) next week. I realize this isn't the most convenient time for a hole in coverage, but it's certainly better than a September or October alternative.
